Description
The development, still known as Quinta do Mitra, forms an integral part of the Campanhã Intermodal Terminal (TIC) project.
The pre-existing building, part of a large estate which, over time, has been successively and very closely surrounded by major transport infrastructure (railway, VCI and now the TIC), had been abandoned, rendered non-functional, in ruins and in an advanced state of structural decay, on the verge of collapse.
The architectural proposal focused on the complete preservation of the existing stone walls, retaining their found condition and appearance of ruin, whilst reconfiguring the spaces for a new, multi-purpose functional programme, transforming it into a municipal services building that meets the new spatial, construction and infrastructure requirements.
